Swede Rolling Blocks
The Scandinavian rolling blocks include; the 1868 Remington contract, the 1st production was Remington marked on the tang, has locking screws, chambered 12.17x44R rim fire. The wood and furniture is typical Remington pattern. There are not many of these left in their original form as most were converted to center fire and may more later converted again to 8x58R Danish smokeless in 1889. The second contract was for actions only. These rifles were then finished with various musket and rifle parts in four separate arsenals. The Swede rifles are usually identified by the locking screws used to retain the receiver pins. On the military rifles the locking screws are found on the left side of the receiver adjacent to the individual pins much like Mauser locking screws. Carl Gustav began using the Reminton style button instead of locking screws about 1875. Some of the civilian models have cap screws threaded into the opposite end of the pins (seen from the right side of the receiver). The 1889 breech blocks have a long paddle type thumb piece. While we will be happy to assist you with information regarding the function of the Swede receivers as best we can, we do not have adequate detail regarding the many variations of these rifles needed for collectors of Original firearms.
